The University Medical Services include:
â€¢ Treatment of the sick both in â€“patients and out patients
â€¢ Laboratory Services
â€¢ Dental Services
â€¢ Family Planning
â€¢ Voluntary Counseling and Testing for HIV (VCT)
â€¢ Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) -(Provision of HIV drugs)
â€¢ Private wing services to the public and over-the-counter medication
â€¢ Emergency treatment for accidents/illness
â€¢ Health Counseling (stress/smoking/drugs/alcohol)
General Patient Care
â€¢ The University offers both curative and health promotion services to staff and their dependants, and students. Eligibility for treatment is a responsibility of both staff and students. The staff are required to register themselves and their dependants at the medical centre. Registration is effected on presentation of a valid identity card, a marriage certificate for the spouse and birth certificates for the biological children below 18 years of age.
â€¢ All students undergo a Medical Examination before admission into the University. A medical records file for each student is opened on completion of the exercise.
â€¢ It is the responsibility of both the staff and students to adhere to eligibility procedure in order to protect their rights and privilege of accessing the services.
â€¢ The staff on duty at the medical centre reserve the authority to ask for identification and medical access card before the student and staff/their dependants accesses the services respectively.
Laboratory Services : The centre offers basic laboratory services and majority of the investigations done for diagnosis of malaria HIV/AIDS and other STIs, Brucellosis etc
Dental Services: the unit offers basic dental care services being run by a Public Health Dental Officer.
HIV/AIDS services: the centre offers Voluntary Counseling & Testing (VCT) services and provision of Anti-Retroviral (ART) Services including provision of ARVs. The ART clinic is held every Wednesday of the week while VCT services are daily from Monday to Friday.
Private wing services to the public and Over-the-counter medication
The centre also serves clients from the surrounding community such as Banda, Kireka and Kamuli and institutions such as Kyambogo College School and The National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC).
Student Peer Educator activities: The Centre oversees planning and implementation of peer educator activities. Reproductive Health (RH) activities and services have been availed through training of Student Volunteers.
In case of emergency or critically ill cases, the University Ambulance stationed at the medical centre transports such cases to the medical centre. And where need arises to referral hospitals.
â€¢ All services provided at Kyambogo University Medical centre are confidential. Medical records are a property of the Medical Centre.
â€¢ NO access to your health record by an Academic or Administrative department. Access to any information must be obtained with your written consent and with permission of Director Health Services.
