    CALL FOR 1ST INTAKE OF INCUBATEES 2017

     

    Background

    The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports, with support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) is implementing the Higher Education, Science and Technology (HEST) project, which aims at supporting Kyambogo University to improve the quality and relevance of higher education in order to stimulate economic growth and development. Kyambogo University has distinguished itself as a pioneer institution in the country to establish a Bakery and Confectionery Business Incubation Centre (KyU BIC).

    Objectives

    The purpose of this project is to promote business start-ups in Baking and Confectionery within the University Community and the region and it is focused to achieve the following objectives:

    1. Stimulate business start-ups
    2. Help translate academic research ideas to practical business solutions
    3. Impart skills and improve products for businesses already in operation

     

    Target Group

    The center shall admit:

    • Current students of Kyambogo University
    • Graduates of Kyambogo University
    • Staff of Kyambogo University
    • All Ugandans involved in Bakery and Confectionery  Production

     

    Duration

    The duration will be determined after agreeing on the Incubation Schedule and fulfilling the requirements of the Incubation Contract/Agreement.

     

    Eligibility

    Category A

    The applicants shall provide a concept leading to a business start-up in Baking & Confectionery. The concept should have the following items; description of the /product, the innovation/value addition, tests to be carried out on the product, commercialization strategy/plan, expected inputs and outputs. For businesses that are already in operation, provide proof of existence of the businesses, and an inspection to confirm the information provided shall be conducted

     

    Category B

    The applicants shall present a research concept in Baking & Confectionery. The concept can be a fresh research or on-going research. The research may be implemented by the applicant or where the applicant is a member of a research team. Preference will be given to a research team where the Principal Investigator (PI) is a staff of Kyambogo University or sister Universities that are beneficiaries of the AfDB-HEST project.

    1. All applicants for Category A MUST provide evidence of availability of working capital.
    2. Multiple Applications (category A and/or B) will be considered

     

    Kyambogo University BIC offers:

    • Working space
    • Equipment (Basic and Specialized)
    • Mentorship
    • Utilities (Water, Electricity)

    Kyambogo University BIC does NOT offer

    • Working capital
    • Salaries and/or allowances
