Remarks from the Head of Department
The Department of Art and Industrial Design, Kyambogo University is unique from other art schools. It has a combination of programs with a broad curriculum. The Vocational degree enables one to be a full time artist or an art teacher, the Bachelor of Art and Industrial Design degree prepares the students to be original, imaginative and creative and to use their skills in the field with minimal supervision.
The Diplomas in Secondary Education, Interior Design and Ceramics are all tailored towards understanding and meeting the needs of the community. We are rigorous and gallant in our teaching, creative in our thinking and agile in acclimatizing to the ever changing demands of the community.
We also have enhanced academic programs that take care of the traditional and indigenous knowledge. Our graduates usually find it easy to get absorbed into the job market and are ready to add fabulous value to their organizations, their communities and the world.
The department runs and houses two masters programs; Masters of Arts and Industrial Design and Masters in Vocational Pedagogy respectively. These programs absorb students who graduate from the department but are also open to others, including international students.
Our knowledgeable staff members are drawn from a diverse educational background of Art Teachers and Art Managers, Entrepreneurs, Communication Skills and Marketing Management Experts as well as Psychologists. This gives us an advantage to tap from their wealth of ideas.
Our students represent a wide variety of cultures, interests and ideals that are achieved in a collaborative manner (group work) drawn from the vocational pedagogical approach to learning – all this we use to enhance our creativity and sources of inspiration which are vital to an artist.
