    ODETTEDr. Niyisabwa Odette Tumwesigye is a lecture with specialized training in: Orientation and Mobility for persons with visual impairment, and Education of learners with visual impairment. She holds a PhD in Special Needs Education from Keyatta University (PhD / SNE). The PhD study was on: "Strategies for enhancing access and retention of learners with visual impairments in Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools in South Western Uganda". Holds a Master of Philosophy in Special Needs Education from University of Oslo ÔÇô Norway (Phil / SNE). The focus of the study was on: "Assessing the phonological awareness of school beginners. A case of one of the Primary Schools in a semi ÔÇô urban area in Kampala. She has a wide experience of working in the field of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.

    She served as Assistant inspector of schools in charge of learners with Visual impairments in Kampala Capital City Authority - (From September 1997 ÔÇô July 2005); Lecturer at Kyambogo University ÔÇô July 2007 to date. Responsibilities held at the university include: Head of Section ÔÇô Mobility and Rehabilitation (From August 2007 ÔÇô date); Team leader, Diploma in Special Needs Education External (DSNEE) Program (From 2008 ÔÇô to date). Has made consultancy with two international projects: ADRA ÔÇô Rwanda in the area of Inclusive Education for learners with Visual Impairments. Afghanistan Skills Development Project (ASDP) in the area of Orientation and Mobility for persons with Visual Impairments. The project was sponsored by World Bank.
