Department of Sportscience Kyambogo University
Faculty of Science,
The Department of Sportscience is proud of have made the AFAHPER-SD Conference a reality. It has been a long and grueling journey to reach this point. The conference is manifestation of our search for distinction and academic relevance through research. As part of its mandate a department of Kyambogo University, the department of Sportscience is charged with the role to promote development, research and excellecnce in physical activity, physical education and sports by providing special training for the teachers, coaches, managers and leaders of sports in the region. To realize this mandate the department has strived to build capacity by adding four PHDs to its establishement has heavily invested in research and finally the department has organized the 9thBiennnial AFAHPER-SD Conference. It is a knowledge-base conference derived from recent research.
The department of Sportscience, as a precursor to this conference, tested herself initially by organizing the first ever Post-graduate seminar for Kyambogo University Higher Degree students in November 2009. This was successful; the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs was in attendance and more than 100 delegates and researchers shared their research proposals and findings with the University fraternity which included Special Guests from the British Council.
In this connection, special thanks go to the major sponsor and promoter, Kyambogo University for its moral and financial support towards the success of this conference; The AFAHPER-SD Executive for giving us direction; The Ministry of Education and Sports specifically the Department of Physical Education and Sports for their guidance. The Top Management of the University accepted to convene the conference and the University Research, Grants and Publications Committee financed the conference and the publication of the proceedings. In addition, the department acknowledges the relentless efforts of the Local Organising Committee: Dr Aron Wanyama, former Dean of Faculty Science, Dr Constance A.N.Nsibambi (Scientific, Website and Techinical Committee Chair), Dr Eunice A.Kateshumbwa (Secretariat Chair), Dr Mukana S.
